About Us

 

John Miller is the general contractor and owner of JM Construction. The company was founded in 1995 in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and initially specialized in the framing and siding of large custom beach homes. John relocated JM Construction to Santa Cruz in 2001 and earned his California contractor license in 2003. JM Construction is now one of Santa Cruz's local small businesses, specializing in residential construction, framing, and kitchen and bathroom remodels (Licences: California #828061, Florida #CGC1537385).

 
Sonia Miller is a sustainability expert and a State of California-qualified architectural historian specializing in historic preservation and adaptive reuse of historic structures. An experienced project manager and designer, she addresses special issues related to site planning and design, CEQA regulations, and historic evaluation (DPR523 primary records). Sonia is a credentialed LEED AP Neighborhood Development. She holds a BS in Archeological Sciences with Anthropology (1998), a Master's in Urban (Regional and City) Planning (2013), and a Master's in Art History (2017). She also earned an AAS in Architecture (2009) and is currently pursuing a P.h.D. in the history and theory of architecture and urban design with the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium). Sonia has over fifteen years of experience working with historic evaluations (CRA), sustainability programs, construction management, and design for the public and private sectors.
